A Brief History

of Mark Brinn

About Mark

I’ve been working as a professional graphic designer for over 20 years. In that time I’ve worked with brands like IBM, AT&T, Meta, and Ray-Ban. I’ve worked with agencies such as BBDO and 72 & Sunny. I’ve also worked on films with directors like Guillermo Del Toro and Mathew Cullen. And I’ve made graphics for a bunch of commercials, including a 5 Gum spot with John Favreau.

But before all that, I was just a kid with a wild imagination. I loved playing with lego, building forts in the woods, and reading every comic book I could get my hands on. As I grew older, the comic books turned into graphic novels, and my focus on art became more serious.

In high school I started making posters for my friends’ student government campaigns, school fundraisers and gig posters for local garage bands. This eventually led to my first design job making gig posters for The Nightlight Lounge – a local music venue. Over the years I worked there, I made hundreds of posters for all genres of music, from heavy metal to hip-hop.

I was grateful for the opportunity to work with some of my favorite artists – such as Method Man, Gregory Isaacs, Reggie Watts, Del tha Funky Homosapien, KRS-1, Souls of Mischief, Bill Frissell, Andrew Bird and countless others.

I attended art schools in Seattle, WA and Pasadena, CA where I devoted myself to exploring various mediums and styles, and learning the ins and outs of graphic design, including: typography, composition, illustration, art history, web design, motion graphics, and historical printmaking techniques.

I am very proud to have graduated with the highest honors, as valedictorian.

Through the years I’ve seen almost every type of project and worked within every type of budget. From global advertising campaigns, to cross-platform multimedia projects, to building branding guidelines and websites for startups and entrepreneurs.

I’ve worked as a freelancer, on staff at agencies, as well as in-house, and I’ve seen the benefits (as well as the pitfalls) of each. So I put together a new system – one where I could provide the highest quality design, as well as the best possible value to my clients.
